I have been using CS-400 for almost three years now and I must say that this is an amazing little saw, suitable for the average person. My only concern is that I have problem starting it during winter months. In my situation, I figured I have to keep it idle for about 5 minutes prior to engaging the task. But note that this only happens below 0 degree Fahrenheit, if not for this, I would rate this with 5 stars.

The CS-400 is my second chainsaw. I found out that Echo is way better than Poulan. The CS-400 I bought was a refurb from Home Depot but it still runs smoothly up to this day. It is much less difficult to operate than my Stihl but it doesn’t have the same power. With its short bar, it is more effective in felling small trees or quite larger trunk diameter. The performance is also unaffected by fluids.

I have some cutting works on a mountain of 3500 f elevation and purchased this saw for that. I was thinking that I have to re-jet the saw because of the change in elevation. Without doing it though, the chainsaw started. I only need to adjust some idle screws to match the elevation. For several minutes, the saw ran decently, but later I decided to re-jet it. This chainsaw is a significant step up from Homelite, Craftsman or any saw for that matter.

It is understandable though that some company can’t produce chainsaws that works perfectly in any elevation. But as for DIYers, they expect the Echo chainsaw has jetting chart provided on the manual that will guide them through elevation changes. Most manual simply tells you to see a dealer. I would have to see one though, most likely.
